With the Shopify or WooCommerce integration, you can use the coupon code block to add new and existing coupon codes to your campaigns and automation emails.
If you are not using Shopify or WooCommerce, here you can read how to send coupon codes without the coupon code block.
- The coupon code block is available with the Shopify and WooCommerce integrations
- This block is only supported by the email designer, not the old classic designer
- Shopify coupon codes are case sensitive
- WooCommerce coupon codes are not case sensitive
- The coupon code block generates one general code per campaign. No unique code is created for each contact
This article covers the following points:
- How does the coupon code block work?
- How can I add the coupon code block to my email and configure it with my online store?
- How can I update the coupon code?
- Error: reconnect with Shopify
How does the coupon code block work?
The coupon code block opens your Shopify or WooCommerce coupon configuration in MailBlue. After dragging the 'Coupon' block into the campaign, you will see the existing WooCommerce or Shopify coupon codes displayed in the right panel of the email designer. If you do not want to use an existing code, you can create a new one. When you do this, the new code will be synchronised with your connected store.
Consider the following supported coupon types for your integration:
Supported coupon types for WooCommerce:
- Fixed amount
- Percentage
- Free shipping
Supported coupon types for Shopify:
- Fixed amount
- Percentage
- Free shipping
- Buy X, get Y
How can I add the coupon code block to my email and configure it with my online store?
Add the coupon code block to the email
- From the email designer, drag the 'Coupon' block to the desired location in the email.
- Click on the block to display the options in the right panel.
- Click on the 'Select a store' dropdown menu and choose a store. Additional options will load in the right panel, where you can take the following actions:
Select an existing coupon
- In the side panel, click on the dropdown list 'Select coupon'.
- Click on the coupon you want to use. The coupon code will be filled in the email designer.
- To edit the code, click on the hyperlink 'Edit coupon in Shopify'. Clicking on this will open your Shopify environment where you can make adjustments to the code.
Create a new coupon code
If you want to create a new coupon code that is not yet in your Shopify or WooCommerce environment, you can do so by following these steps:
- Click on the 'Create new discount coupon' button in the sidebar.
- A new screen will open: 'Create a coupon'.
- Click on the dropdown list 'Discount type' and choose a type of discount code you want to use:
- Percentage
- Fixed amount
- Buy X, get Y (only for Shopify)
- Free shipping
For WooCommerce only: enter a summary of your coupon in the 'Coupon description' field.
- Enter the desired coupon code or click “Generate code” to create the code that contacts will use.
- Optional: Click on the dropdown list 'Value' and choose a value for your coupon code. This option may vary based on the 'Discount type' you selected earlier.
- Click on 'Apply to' to choose where the discount coupon applies. Note that there may be other configuration options based on your selection in 'Apply to'. Do not leave this field empty.
- Choose an 'Expiration date'. You cannot change the default option of one coupon per customer. The expiration options shown here should be used in addition to the default option.
- Click on 'Create coupon'.
- Edit: Click on the hyperlink 'Edit coupon'.
Updating a coupon code
If you want to edit an existing or newly created coupon code, click on the 'Edit coupon code' hyperlink. This will take you to your Shopify or WooCommerce page to edit the coupon configuration. You cannot modify the coupon code once it has been created.
Please note: WooCommerce uses the standard administrator URL structure for redirection. If you have a custom administrator URL, the link may not redirect to the exact coupon page.
Error: reconnecting with Shopify
Some Shopify users who have not recently reconnected their store may see an error message when selecting the coupon code block. This is because Shopify requires permission to create coupon codes in your store. By reconnecting your store, MailBlue is authorised to create discount coupons. You need to reconnect your store before proceeding.
To do this:
- Click on the 'Reconnect with store' button.
- The reconnection will open in a new window. Click on “Reconnect” in the top right corner.
- Go back to the Campaign builder and click 'Try again' or refresh the page.
