What start triggers can I use within an automation?

Within MailBlue, there are many start triggers that allow you to initiate your created automation. But what exactly do these start triggers entail?

This article explains all possible start triggers for automations. A start trigger is the condition that determines whether a contact enters the automation. You can add multiple triggers to start the automation in different ways for contacts.

Please note: In general, we strongly advise against making changes to an active automation. This can lead to unexpected errors. Therefore, always set the automation to 'Inactive' before making any changes!

If the situation requires the automation to be 'Active' (e.g. starting contacts at a specific point), it is better to set this aside.

Subscribes to a list

When this start trigger is used, the automation starts as soon as a contact is added to a list. You can specify whether this applies to a specific list or all lists.

You can use this trigger to:

  • Send a welcome email.

Unsubscribes from a list

The automation starts when someone unsubscribes from a list. The contact can unsubscribe themselves or you can do it manually.

You can use this trigger to:

  • Decrease a contact or deal score.

  • Receive a notification when a contact unsubscribes.

Fills out a form

The automation starts when a contact fills out a form. You can specify which form this applies to.

You can use this trigger to:

  • Increase a deal score.

  • Send targeted emails using tags from the form.

  • Collect contact information.

Clicks a link in an email

The automation starts when a contact clicks a link in one of your emails. You can keep this general where it doesn't matter which link or email it is. It is also possible to specify based on email, list, and link.

You can use this trigger:

  • To apply tags.

  • To send follow-up emails.

  • To adjust contact or deal scores.

Webpage is visited

This start trigger utilises site tracking data. Once a contact visits the webpage, the automation begins. To use this trigger, you must first activate Site Tracking. You can enter the exact URL before the automation starts, such as the page where your pricing overview is located.
