How can I merge contacts?

If you have duplicate contacts in your account, you can use the 'Merge' feature to combine them into 1 contact. This applies to a contact that is registered with different email addresses, as you cannot be double registered with the same email address in MailBlue.
It is not possible to merge more than 2 contacts at the same time. Once the contact is merged, the action cannot be undone.

In this article, we will guide you step by step on how to merge your contacts:

  1. Click on 'Contacts' in your MailBlue overview and then on the email address whose data you want to merge with another contact. Once the merge is complete, the chosen email address will no longer be available in your account.

  2. Within the contact profile, click on the 'Merge' action in the dropdown menu in the top right corner

  3. A window will appear with suggestions of contacts you can merge. If the contact you want to merge is listed, click on 'Merge'. If the desired contact is not listed, you can use the search bar to find the email address of the contact.

The email address of the contact you searched for will remain in your MailBlue account after merging.

  4. If the contacts have different values for the same fields, you will be asked which field conditions of the contact you want to keep and which ones you want to remove. If you want to view the conflicting fields of the 2 contacts, click on 'View all conflicting fields'

To select the fields of the contact you want to keep, click on the name of the contact and then on 'Next'. This choice will be applied to all conflicting fields for the merge.

In this example, we choose to keep the field values of the 'destination contact'. This will result in the field values of the 'source contact' being removed.

  5. If the contacts are in the same automation, you need to choose either the version of the source contact or the version of the destination contact. Click on 'View all conflicting automations' to see all conflicting automations. In this example, we choose to keep the automations of the source contact:

  6. Read the points on the next screen carefully and tick the checkboxes. When you are ready, click on 'Merge' to complete the action:

Tags from the source contact will be added to the destination contact. Previous campaign activities of the source contact will also be added to the 'Recent activities' of the destination contact.
