This article explains how to create personalised website experiences using the web personalisation feature. This functionality is available with a MailBlue Professional subscription.
Before you get started
- Web personalisation uses website tracking. You need to whitelist your webpage URL to use this feature. Also, make sure to check the 'Web personalisation' box on the 'Website tracking' page in your MailBlue account settings.
- The website tracking code must be placed in the header of your webpage.
- Web personalisation does not process URL redirects. If you redirect your URL to a different domain, you must use the destination domain.
- You can edit the following elements for concept experiences: text, images, and button text.
- You cannot format the font, colour, or placement of the text.
- Images must be stored on an image hosting platform.
How to create an experience
With web personalisation, you can create up to three different versions of a webpage and then display them to contacts based on tags when they visit your site. These versions of your webpage are called 'experiences'.
To create an experience:
1. Click on 'Website' in the left menu.
2. If you haven't created an experience yet, the 'Create an experience' module will open for you. If you already have a concept experience in your account, click on the 'Create experience' button.
3. A 'Select your page' module will appear.
- Click on the dropdown field.
- Click on the URL for which you want to create an experience.
- Click on the 'Start customising' button.
If you want to personalise a new domain, click on the '+ Add a new page' option and enter the page you want to personalise. Then click on the 'Start customising' button.
- The software will automatically whitelist this URL.
- The software will enable website tracking and web personalisation for you.
- We ask you to add the JavaScript code for website tracking to the header of the page.
4. The experience builder will load. Click on one of the options to 'Customise this page' in the experience builder.
5. A 'Create a segment' module will open, and the segment builder will appear. Here, you can specify the conditions a contact must meet to see the customised page. These can be both contact details and custom fields. You can add multiple conditions to a segment to provide contacts with a tailored experience.
Once created, you cannot modify this segment.
6. On the 'Personalised page' tab, your webpage will be displayed with an iframe. You can edit text, images, and button text.
- Use your mouse to hover over an element on the page.
- Click on the element you want to edit.
The 'Item editor' will appear on the right side.
7. To use different text on the page, type it in the 'Typography' box. Then click on the 'Save Changes' button.
8. To use a different image, paste the URL in the Image Source URL field. Supported image file formats are: JPG, JPEG, PNG, SVG, GIF, or WEBP.
Then click on the 'Save Changes' button.
9. Redirect visitors to another webpage or website when they click on a button on your page.
- This can be done with any link that already exists on the page you are personalising.
- You cannot embed new links to your page via the web personalisation tool.
To redirect page visitors to another page or website, click on the element with the link you want to modify. The item editor will open on the right. Type the new URL in the designated field.
If you are redirecting visitors to a new domain, you must use the full URL, including https://. We will not redirect visitors to non-secure domains.
10. When you are ready to go live with the experience, click on the 'Publish' button.
How do I identify changed elements?
Changed elements will be marked with green dashes.
