How do I send emails within an automation only on weekdays?

It may be that you prefer the emails in your automations to be sent to your contacts only on weekdays. In this article, you will learn how to set this up.

Please note: Generally, we strongly advise against making changes in an active automation. This can lead to unexpected errors. Therefore, always set the automation to 'Inactive' before you start!

If the situation requires the automation to be 'Active' (e.g. contacts starting at a specific point), it is better to leave it as is.

  1. In the MailBlue main menu, navigate to 'Automations' and select the automation containing the email for which you want to set this up.
  2. Click on the plus sign above the relevant email.

  3. Next, choose the 'Conditions and Workflow' tab and select the wait step:

  4. Now click on the checkbox for 'Wait until certain conditions are met':

  5. Then, in the conditions editor, click on the option 'Date & Time':

  6. You can then choose 'Current day of the week'. Here you can select the current day of the week based on the contact's timezone (this geographical data is determined based on a contact's IP address) or the current day of the week from your current timezone (Europe/Amsterdam if you are in the Netherlands). In the example, we assume 'Current day of the week (Contact's timezone)'.

  7. By default, the intermediate step is set to 'Is' and you can open the drop-down menu in the right field using the arrow and select 'Weekday':

  8. Then click on 'Close' and in the following screen again on 'Close'.

All contacts encountering this wait step on a weekend day will now remain in the wait step until it is a weekday. The email will then be sent.

If you wish to do this for multiple emails within an automation, we recommend placing a wait step like this above the respective email(s) again.
