You may want to send a personal discount code to your contacts so they can use it on your website. To send discount codes to your contacts, you will first need to import this information as a custom field. Then, you can use a personalisation tag to load that information into your campaign or automation email.
Please note: MailBlue does not generate discount codes itself.
This article provides information on:
Uploading discount codes
-
Log in to your MailBlue account and export the contacts that need to receive a unique coupon code. When these contacts are in a list, click on 'list' > click on the list name > click on 'Export' at the top right of the page.
-
Edit the exported file by removing all columns except the email address column. Add a column next to the email address with the Discount Code. 'Discount Code' will serve as the new name of your custom field when we import this information later.
-
Generate a list of discount codes from a third party
-
Copy the discount codes and paste them into the file in the designated column that you exported from MailBlue
- Now you need to import this file to assign the discount codes to contacts. Click on 'Contacts' in the left menu and click on 'Import' at the top right of the page.
-
Click on 'Import from file'
- Select your file from the hard drive.
-
Assign the discount code column to a custom field on the import page. If this field does not exist yet, click on 'Add new field' from the dropdown menu.
-
Select a field type for the discount code and click Next. In this example, we use 'Text input'
-
Enter the name of the custom field and click 'Save'.
-
In the 'Import options' box, click on 'Update existing contacts during import' and click 'Import Now'.
Note! You do not need to select a list because you are only updating contacts in the CSV file with a custom field.
Once the contacts are updated, you will see the new custom field on the contact's profile page.
Additionally, we also generate a personalization tag for the new field that you can use to include in your emails
Adding discount codes to a campaign
To assign the discount codes to your contacts, you need to add the personalisation tag for your discount code in your email. Once the contact receives the email, the value for that tag will be automatically inserted.
-
To start, open the campaign or automation email and click on a text box. For the purpose of this article, we used 'Let's use this code at checkout:'
-
Place the cursor where you want to insert the tag. Then click 'Personalise' above the text box.
-
Click within the 'Add personalisation' window on the 'Discount code' field. The personalisation tag will be added.
Please note! To test the email before sending it to your contacts, you must send this email to a test contact with a discount code. If you send a test email via the test function of this campaign, no values will be displayed for personalisation tags.
